Governor Schwarznegger visits R&L Brosamer's Pittsburg, CA jobsite at Highway 4       It Pays to Work Safely

While productivity, cost and quality are core values at R&L Brosamer, Inc., we will not compromise safety for their sakes. We are committed to elevating safety standards within our own organization, and the industry. Through our partnering relationships with our insurance carriers, industry associations and regulatory agencies, RLB has led the way in implementing zero-tolerance drug testing programs, aggressive fall protection programs and innovative training techniques and methods. Safety is everyone’s responsibility at RLB from the estimating department to the newest hand. That responsibility is not taken lightly and as such we do extensive training at all levels to provide the knowledge to support those responsibilities as well as the materials and equipment needed to get the job done safely.

RLB has consistently improved both its incident rate and lost time accident rate. We are currently at one-third of our industries average rate for lost time accidents and we will continue to improve our performance for the sake of our employees, and their families.

As a side benefit, our safety performance is keeping us in the bidding game at a price that keeps us competitive. The difference between a below-average safe project and an above-average safe project can amount to savings of $1,000 per day (about $250,000 per year). Safer job sites equate to lower insurance costs. In a market where just finding a carrier to offer a quote is a problem for many companies, we enjoy some of the lowest insurance costs in the industry. Additionally, working safely allows us to complete projects on time and ahead of schedule because we are faced with fewer injuries or accident-related delays.

On May 12, 2005, Governor Schwarznegger visited our Pittsburg, CA jobsite at Highway 4, Railroad Avenue, where we are widening both east and westbound lanes. The governor feels it is important to widen more freeways in California, and was using our jobsite as an outstanding example of a freeway widening project. Steve Banke, Project Manager for this job, is shown on the far right. Bob Brosamer, President of R&L Brosamer (2nd from right), is conversing with Governor Schwarznegger (3rd from right). Many thanks to everyone on the crew of this successful project (shown left of and behind Governor Schwarznegger) – you are the reason it succeeded.
